Mr. Lewis Super Dad
High School Student Megan has Great Support At Home!

Mr. Lewis is the father of the harmonica super star Megan Lewis. He took his daughter to Long Beach, California for her Kid’s Talk Radio interview and was talked into getting interviewed himself. Most parents would run right out the door. Mr. Lewis took to the mike like a pro. You can find his interview on Kid’s Talk Radio. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis are behind Megan 100% and this is going to help her to meet all of her musical goals.

What is a shofar?
by Rabbi Mendy Hecht

A. A Shofar (pronounced SHOW-fur) is perhaps the oldest wind instrument known to man. Made of the hollowed horn of an animal, usually a ram, it is blown on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, the month of Elul, and by some Chassidic groups on Hoshanah Rabbah. Shofars are generally beige in color and around 1.5 feet long with a half-spiral at the far end, though some can be very long, twisted, and/or dark in color. A shofar is not a musical instrument; the shofar-blower can only control the number, length and clarity of the notes sounded, not the key or pitch.

B. The shofar’s haunting, otherworldly wail symbolizes the plaintive call of the innocent soul. It is blown during Elul to arouse one to self-reflection, on Rosh Hashanah to inaugurate G-d as King of the Universe, and on Yom Kippur to cap off the day as it surmounts its spiritual peak.

Parents As Partners

When parents get involved good things happen. The after school drum class is treated to a demonstration of a new instrument that is made from an animals horn. Everyone in the class was treated to a unique solo on this super animal horn. Our teachers have integrating science and mathematics into our new after school music program. We are using the new program called Database Projects for Kids-Mathematics. Students are making original instruments and learning about all the mathematics that is involved in making a set of drums.  We should do everything possible to invite parents to be our partners.

The Special Education Parent Action Reseach Page

We want to work with parents on some special projects. Our organization of teacher reserachers are dedicated to finding new and better ways of helping students and parents with project based IEP's. We need all the hands we can get when it comes to helping students with special needs. We want parents to tell us about what works and what needs to be fixed. In exchange, we will provided you with some valualbe resourse that will help your children right now.
