SSU is working with the FileMaker Corporation, PNN News, Apple Computer, the City of Long Beach, Sam Ash Music, Istanbul Cymbals and educational consultants in science, mathematics, history, and language arts. Our special education and gifted and talented teams are making sure that our new programs reach all children. Special plans are underway to insure that English language learners can participate in our Jr. Business School After School Programs. We have new programs designed for homeschoolers where we coteach with parents. Parents participate in planning an individualized high motivational learning program for their children. All programs are designed with individual state standards in mind. Coures are taught by credentiled teachers licensed for grades 4 through 12. The Super Subs Did you know that the Super Subs are helping schools that are not meeting their AYP goals. Kid's Talk Radio is an exciting new high motivational learning project designed to help students to get excited about learning. This creative new program helps students to listen, speak, read, write, problem solve and use new an innovative technology. Kid's Talk Radio provides a new and exciting way to differentiate instruction for all students. Our students create radio programming in history, science, mathematics, and reading. All programs are enhanced with the visual and performing arts. We are finding new ways to help schools to reduce their dropout rates. We want you to join our Kid’s Talk Radio News Team. All kids will need at least one teacher or a very willing parent to join our Kid’s Talk Radio News Team. We have a wonderful Kid’s Talk Radio News Kit that will provide all of the tools you need to get started. This is a wonderful opportunity for teachers to bond with a special student that has the potential to work on a news team. Our program is very simple and easy to use. We want to teach you how to do Podcast for Kid’s Talk Radio. Our kits for parents and teachers are free. All you have to do is to produce 5 Podcast that are at least 2 minutes long. Our motto is that: “We bring you the news that kids can use.” Don’t worry we will guide you every step of the way. We just want your talent. Our teachers work with their students after school and they help the students to use the writing process to produce mini news stories in the students own voice. Kid’s Talk Radio is about teaching kids how to listen, speak, read, write and compute. None of our stories are political or religious and we try hard not to offend anyone. After all, we are just teachers trying to find creative ways to keep kids excited about learning. This is a wonderful program for parents and even single parents that see kids on the weekends. We have lots of creative ideas in our teacher and parent guides. To protect kids we will keep real names and address confidential. Kid’s can even choose a special name just for the Internet Radio. All of our students will have a chance to be on the air with live Internet stations. This will get your message out to family members and classmates, and like minded Internet radio listeners. Special Events: Kid’s Talk Radio/ Rhythms of the World Workshops The Kid’s Talk Radio World Music Project Bob Barboza has started a new project that includes publishing kid’s stories on Kid’s Talk Radio and adding musical rhythms generated by young children from around the world. Bob is not working alone. His long time music partners Ronnie Ciago will join him in a tour of the Sam Ash Music Super Stores in Southern California. The musical dynamic duo will demonstrate the latest Roland Inc., electronic V-Drums and Handsonic percussion instruments. In addition, Bob Barboza will demonstrate how he uses Roland musical equipment and the Music Pad Pro at Kid’s Talk Radio. This year’s musical programs will bring lots of excitement as Bob Barboza continues to collaborate with John and Ramiro Mendes of the Mendes Brothers as they work on World Music Projects for Kids. New Kid’s Talk Radio Podcasts and training CD’s will follow. Jr. Medical School Have you ever thought of going to Medical School?   Jr. Medical School is a high motivational distance-learning program. Our individualized and group programs are designed for gifted and talented students in grades 4 through 12.  Jr. Medical School is open to all students. Kid’s Talk Radio is a high motivational learning program designed by Robert Barboza, MS., for gifted and talented students. Students in grades 1 through 12 receive differentiated instructions in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and computing. Students work as individual reporters or on an integrated virtual radio station news team. All students receive individual learning plans, electronic portfolios, technology training, radio station tool training kits, student electronic study guides, and individualized instruction. Kid’s Talk Radio Courses are rigorous standards based reading and writing programs that requires instructional student instruction to be planned and organized as an integrated, differentiated after school and distance learning experience, and are augmented and supplemented with other differentiated activities related to the core curriculum. Students are trained to conduct research, interview students and adults, and create station programming that can be shared with parents, teachers, students, and the community. Science, mathematics, and technology learning programs are integrated into our radio shows. Our students share information with others ranging from across the classroom and across the world. Since then, educators such as Kid’s Talk Radio’s Bob Barboza have been coming to the conference to exchange knowledge on the ways in which technology can enhance student learning. At the conference this past weekend, over 800 participants explored the latest ed-tech tools and resources and learned from ed-tech gurus Marc Prensky and Will Richardson. CLMS’ Executive Director, Peter Murphy, and Assistant Executive Director, Aneta Murphy, met Lauren Elliott, the designer of the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? software series. “It was thrilling to meet the creator of the wonderful games that our kids enjoyed so much and learned so much from,” Mrs. Murphy said. “I used to attend and speak at CLM for years and years and I always loved coming to beautiful Monterey, California to do this conference.  Monterey is just a wonderful setting to visit and learn about the latest technology that is being used in the school.”  Said, Bob Barboza. “I was pleased to learn that Mike Lawrence, Executive Director, CUE was lending support to this important educational conference.” Said Barboza. Kid's Talk Radio Anthropology Project in Mexico Kid's Talk Radio Reporters on Assignment in Mexico City Jane and Bob Barboza had a chance to visit their son David Barboza at the University of Mexico. David is a UCLA student who spent five months studying Spanish at the University of Mexico in Mexico City. While at the university Bob Barboza took a special tour of the University of Mexico's Medical School. He was working on plans for updating Jr. Medical School for the 2007 school year. Jr. Medical School is a high motivational science, technology, and math program created by Bob Barboza in 2002 with the help of the University of Irvine School of Education. We then went on a special guided tour of the Pyramid of the Sun. As we climbed to the top of the pyramid of the sun we were reminded of the archeological wonders that are scattered throughout Mexico. Kool Kids 2007 The Cool Kids Program is an example of "Great News". Seventeen great kids in Southern California were recognized for the positive contributions that they made in 2004. Henry Alfaro interviewed each kid and made it possible for each Cool Kid to receive a $1,000 dollar saving bond. In addition,he provided an awards luncheon and ceremony to honor each Cool Kid. A tour of the ABC 7 Television Studios was offered to all parents and kids in attendance. This studio is considered one of the best in the television business. ABC7 is owned by the Disney Corporation. A video of all the Cool Kids and their great deeds was given to each family.
